Pulwama,Neyaz Elahi,Aug 23, CNS: Accusing Army of encouraging youth to take drugs and alcohol the residents of Lassipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district Saturday claimed that Army jawans refrain them to initiate action against the drug addicts in the area.
A delegation from Lassipora hamlet led by Ghazi Abdul Aziz told CNS that there area has become den for drug addicts where in broad day light, scores of youth could be seen taking drugs and alcohol.
The delegation said that local Auqaf Committee comprising of respectable citizens during a meeting had decided to call for a social boycott with the families whose wards will not mend themselves and in a bid to aware people about the development, the Committee had pasted posters on Masjids, electric polls and walls in and around the whole hamlet.
“Hours after pasting these posters, army personnel from SIDCO camp appeared in the area and tore all these posters. These Army personnel threatened us of dire consequences in case we initiate action against these drug users,” the delegation alleged adding that the action of Army jawans indicated that they are encouraging youth to use drugs in the area.
The delegation said that they will not stop and will again call for social boycott with the families whose wards use and spread drug menace in the area. They warned that if Army personnel will again interfere in their social matters then they would launch an agitation in the area and will whole population comprising of Lassipora and adjoining areas.
