killSrinagar, Neyaz Elahi,Aug 27, CNS: Lashing out at the State Government for misleading the House, incumbent MLA Abdul Rehman Veeri Wednesday said it is a blatant lie on part of the government that since 2009 till ending July 2014, only 134 civilians have been killed in Kashmir Valley. “The death toll in 2010 summer agitation was more than 120 and how can government utter such false lie that death toll of civilians is only 134 from 2009 to 2014. Government should feel ashamed by misleading the House and making it a mockery,” Veeri told CNS adding that such ‘lies’ affect the credibility of the House.

PDP leader Abdul Rehman Veeri had sought the number of civilian killings in Kashmir since 2009 to 2014. In a written reply the government informed the House that, “since 2009 till ending July 2014, 114 civilians have lost their lives in Kashmir Valley who were part of the violent mob protests.” The government added that besides 20 persons lost their lives due to various law and order disturbances including stone-pelting, stampede, blast and drowning.

“The irresponsible behaviour of the government is very unfortunate. How long this government would shield their crimes. This government must realize that people are the ultimate source of power and they know everything. This government can’t make a fool of the people by distorting the facts,” Veeri told CNS.

The government in its reply has further maintained that during the year 2010 only, FIR’s were registered against 6563 persons out of whom FIR’s have been withdrawn in respect of 1811 persons.

The government added that 4 Magestrial enquiries were ordered  in different killing incidents, out of which 3 have been finalized while as one is still in progress. (CNS)
