Srinagar, Sep 2, CNS: A militant and an Indian soldier was killed in a ten-hour-long gunfight with army and police in Ladoora Rafiabad area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
Defense sources told CNS that after the inputs about the presence of militants in a house at Ganai Mohalla Ladoora area of Rafiabad town, 32 RR, SOG Sopore and Rafiabad and CRPF contingents cordoned off Ganaie Mohalla. “The militant was present in the house of one Abdul Hamid Ganaie who indiscriminately fired upon the search party resulting in the death of an Army personnel.”
Sources added that gun fight culminated after the government forces planted an IED and blasted the house that resulted in the death of a militant whom police identified as Reyaz Ahmed Mir son of Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Bratkalan Sopore.
A police official said that Reyaz had recently joined the expelled group of Hizbul Mujhadeen Lashkar-e-Islam. “He was active from past five months and was also involved in cellular tower attacks,” he said.
Reports said that a soldier was also injured during the gun fight and he was shifted to Army hospital Baramulla. The deceased Army soldier has been identified as Rifleman Sisar malla. (CNS)
