Srinagar, Sep 16, CNS: Jammu and Kashmir Editors Association led by its President, Rasheed Rahi Wednesday met Director General of Police, K. Rajendra and apprised him about the various problems faced by media fraternity in the State.
The Association appealed police chief to ensure the safety of the field reporters and photo journalists who usually face the burnt while performing their professional duties. The members of the Association informed DGP that field reporters and Photo journalists are usually assaulted either by mob or the government forces and there is a dire need to ensure the safety of these journalists.
Describing independence and freedom of press as essential for democratic set up, DGP, K.Rajendra reiterated his resolve to address issues confronting the media fraternity.
Besides the PRO to DGP, Qazi Muhammad Shafi, General Secretary of the Assoication Shahid Rashid, Rashid Rahil, Imtiyaz Bazaz, Farooq Wani and Feroz Ali were also present in the meeting. (CNS)
