Kashmir shuts against ‘mysterious’ killings

Srinagar, Sep 16, CNS:  A complete shutdown was observed on Wednesday against the upholding of the mysterious killings of three North Kashmir youths.

    The call for shutdown was forwarded by the both factions of Hurriyat and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and it was supported by militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen and High Court Bar Association.

   The impact of shutdown call was seen across Kashmir, where shops, business establishments, educational institutes and offices remain locked down.  

       Pertinently, the bodies of three militants Amir Reshi of Sheva Sopore, Ashiq Hussain of Lolipora Pattan and Naveed Ahmed of Batapora Sopore were recovered by locals in an orchard in Dangarpora Pattan on September 14. The incident had sparked violent protests in some belts of North Kashmir.

    Reports said that all shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while public transport was off the road. Eyewitnesses said that a complete shutdown was observed in Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag.

Authorities had deployed troops and police personnel in strength in North Kashmir and other towns to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the mysterious killings.

    Reports of stray stone pelting incidents were reported from Habakadal, Safakadal, Narabal and other parts of Valley. A police official said that situation remained peaceful throughout the day. (CNS)
