Horticulture sector replete with employment opportunities: Veeri; ‘Youth should be encouraged to opt for Horticulture’

Veeri sep-9Srinagar, September 18,2015-CNS:- In an endeavour to boost horticulture sector, government is making concerted efforts to start horticulture courses in Industrial Training Institutes shortly. The aim is to introduce these courses to impart basic horticulture training to educated youth enabling them to earn livelihood and gain employment in the horticulture sector.

This was revealed at a high level meeting of the officers of Horticulture and Technical Education Department held under the chairmanship of Minister for Horticulture, Mr Abdul Rehman Veeri here on Friday.

Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture production, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari, Director Technical Education, Director Planning Agriculture Production, Secretary Technical Education Board, Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Director HP&M and MD JKHPMC were among others attended the meeting.

The meeting deliberated on several issues for starting horticulture courses in ITIs and it was decided that a committee of the officers of Horticulture and Technical Department would be framed to finalize the syllabus and other modalities for the said course.

The meeting also discussed the seat capacity for horticulture stream in the ITIs   and it was decided that about 400 youth would be imparted basic horticulture training annually and the said course will be commenced from November this year.

The Horticulture Minister instructed the concerned officers to finalize the requisite modalities for the purpose well in time for early starting of these courses in ITIs. He said Horticulture sector guarantees ample opportunities of employment in the State and government is keen to explore all possibilities to promote this sector and engage more and more skilled youth under the sector.

“The government would provide financial assistance and technical know-how of modern horticulture cultivation to the youth for setting up their own ventures under horticulture sector”. Minister said and asked youth to come forward and gain horticulture skills for a better future.
