Srinagar,September 28,2015-CNS:-Denouncing domestic violence against women, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said that harassment of females’ calls out to the society to be committed to defeat these types of degradation that reduces women to mere commodities.
Referring to the incident wherein a woman ended her life by setting herself ablaze on Eid in downtown Srinagar, Tarigami said although women are a symbol of life, the female body is unfortunately frequently harassed and intimidated, even by those who should be its protector and life companion.
The CPI (M) leader demanded speedy investigations into the incident so that the culprits are brought to justice. He said that the discriminatory attitudes toward women enforce abusive behavior and make it easier for a society to condone violence against women.
While expressing serious concern over the tardy investigations into murder case of Neelam Devi and Ganesh Kumar of Gura Kalyal Morha Sarni, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua, Tarigami said that the case is yet to reach its logical conclusion and the accused are roaming free.
He observed that no society can get anywhere on poverty eradication, on economic growth, on social development or environmental sustainability, without empowering women.
