Army undertaking multiple initiatives to win over people in J&K


Srinagar, Oct 5, CNS: “In a bid to bridge the gap between Armed forces personnel and the common people, Army stationed in Kashmir has been undertaking multiple social, sports, educational and welfare initiatives,” said an Army official.

He said that Army is committed to carry on with its welfare initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in trouble torn Valley.

“We launched ‘Sadbhavna’ in early 1990s with an aim to reach out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir reeling under the shadow of gun. The benefits accrued from the initiative in improving the social indices, infrastructure and in consolidating the peace dividends in the state are far in excess of what was perceived during its conceptualization,” he said but added that to reap more benefits under this initiative, proper ground work.

He said over one lakh students has been provided education under Army Goodwill Schools, an education initiative launched under the ambit of ‘Sadbhavna’.

“Besides education, the Army has been providing media aid to people living in far flung areas and for this purpose, medical camps are being organized on daily basis. Over 300 National Integration Tours have been conducted under Sadbhavna, wherein, more than 5,000 beneficiaries (both students and elders) visited other states of the country and got a firsthand view of the culture of their fellow citizens and the growth trajectory of the nation. They came back motivated to become productive citizens of the country and actively leverage the growth trajectory for personal development,” he said.

“We are also committed to skill development of the youth and women of the state to further facilitate their employment. We run vocational training centres and women empowerment centres spread across the state provide practical skills to interested and deserving candidates,” the Army official said told news agency CNS.

“The Army has been identifying a number of civilians who have made some meritorious contribution to society or have an exceptional achievement to their credit to honour and award them,” he said and added that the basic objective of Army is to win the hearts and minds of people. (CNS)
