Army resorts to aerial firing in Sumbal


Bandipora: Reports from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district said that a large number of students from Degree College and Higher Secondary School Sumbal carried out a march seeking capital punishment for rapists and stringent action against those who defend them.

The protesting students amid anti-Lal Singh slogans blocked traffic for hours near Sumbal Bridge. Eyewitnesses said that an army convoy that got stuck in traffic jam while some of the soldiers alighted from a vehicle and fired some rounds in the air. The gun shots created panic in the area.

When contacted, a police official denied the reports that army fired any shot in air.
