Shopian, Apr 27, CNS: A shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Shopian district against the killing of a student.
A student identified as Shakib Shabir was killed after militants fired at government forces at Lazibal crossing on Thursday, but according to police the fire missed the target and hit him. He was a resident of Hergam Shopian.
All shops and other business establishments remained closed in the Shopian town and other areas while skeletal movement of transport was observed on the roads.
Meanwhile, shutdown was observed in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district for the fourth successive day on Friday to mourn the militant killings.
Four militants, including two locals, were killed in a 12-hour gunfight in Lam forests of Tral on Tuesday. The other two were foreigners, including Jaish operational commander, police said.
All shops and other commercial establishments remained closed while public transport also remained off the roads.
Reports said that after Friday congregational prayers, clashes erupted in the town between protesters and government forces.
Witnesses said that a paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was injured after he was hit by a stone. The trooper was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment. (CNS)
