Shopian, May 2 CNS: A civilian has been killed in Turkwangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district where a gunfight is underway between militants and government forces.
Reports said that government forces cordoned off Turkwangam village after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.
Reports added that intermittent firing is going on between militants and government forces.
Witnesses said that a large number of youth hit to roads and clashed with deployed forces. Forces retaliated with bullets and tear-smoke shells when youth pelted stones on them. Witnesses added that four persons one of them critically suffered injuries and have been hospitalized.
Latest reports said a youth suffered a bullet injury who succumbed in the hospital. Local sources identified the slain youth as Muhammad Umar of Pinjora Shopian, Police however didn’t confirm the report.
Another injured youth who was identified as Inayat Ahmed is undergoing treatment in Srinagar hospital. Police said he is stable.
The intermittent firing was going on till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, internet service has been suspended in parts of south Kashmir.(CNS)
