Shopian, May 06-CNS: Five militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter at Badigam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. A civilian who was earlier injured near the encounter site has also succumbed to his injuries. Confirming the militant killings DGP J&K SP Vaid tweeted:
“Encounter concluded at Badigam Zainpora Shopian, 5 bodies of terrorists recovered. Well done boys – Army/ CRPF/J&K Police.”
Official sources told news agency CNS that 5 militant bodies and as many weapons were recovered from the encounter site and the operation stands concluded.
Sources while identifying the militants told CNS that four of the five militants have been identified. Saddam Padder, Bilal Molvi of Heff Shirmal, Dr. Rafiq Bhat from Chunduna Ganderbal and Tawseef Ahmad of Khudwani Kulgam have so far been identified.
The slain civilian has been identified as Hilal Ahmad.
Earlier, a civilian was grievously injured near the encounter site after clashes erupted between youth and SFs erupted.
The gunfight had broken out at Badigam village after army’s 44 RR launched the cordon-and-search operation in the area.
Army’s 23 Para Commandos, 34 RR, 3 RR, CRPF, and SOG were rushed as reinforcements after the contact with militants was established.
One SOG personnel, Anil Kumar and an army soldier of 44 RR were injured in the initial firefight. (CNS)
