Srinagar: Though completed a month back, the much needed and awaited Mehjoor Nagar-Padshahi Bagh Bridge connecting hundreds of areas with main Srinagar city is not being opened for public use just because it needs official inauguration. People have to use the Bailey bridge which has a narrow passage and traffic of only one side can pass.
“The bridge has been completed around a month back but has been blocked on both sides. When Kashmir News Trust questioned ERA officials, they told that it was not being opened for want of official inauguration by chief minister who could not spare time till now for opening it. Even concerned MLA or a Minister can inaugurate it.”
When asked whether they have contacted anyonMehjoor Nagar Bridgee for its inauguration, the official said that the bridge would be opened soon as they will soon get a time slot from Government for its inauguration.
First people were aghast over slow construction work on this bridge but when this got completed; it is not now thrown open for public due to want of official inauguration. This bridge connects Lasjan, Padshahi-Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar, Sooth, Naikpora to city. It missed a deadline in December 2017 and now it was supposed to commission on May 5 this year.
