Srinagar, July 7, CNS: A shutdown was observed in Kashmir Valley against the arrest of Dukhtaran-e-Milat Chief Asiya Andrabi and her aides. The call for shutdown was given by Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Restriction remained in vogue in old Srinagar city including Nowhatta and adjacent areas while skeletal movement of transport was observed on roads in parts of uptown. Though all the shops were closed in city centre Lal Chowk, however, there was almost no impact of shutdown in areas including Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Sonwara, Dalgate, Rambagh and other areas.
Geelani and Mirwaiz continued to remain under house arrest while Muhammad Yasin Malik has been lodged in jail. Authorities are in mood to take any chance on the eve of Burhan Wani’s second anniversary. Curfew was imposed in Tral township, the native place of slain Hizb Commander. Witnesses said that people were not allowed to come out of their houses. “A day before Burhan’s anniversary curfew was imposed in Tral. It shows the harsh attitude of authorities.
Shutdown was also observed in other parts of Kashmir.
In Hyderpora area, a trooper and a civilian were injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade on their vehicle. A police official however said that It was a mysterious blast. The injured trooper was identified as Sada Shiv Patti.
Restrictions were also imposed in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
“In order to maintain law and order, and to safe guard life and property of Public, District Magistrate Bandipora has ordered imposition of restrictions under section 144 cr.p.c within the limits of Tehsil Bandipora/ Aloosa/ Ajas/ Sumbal/ Hajin from dawn to dusk up to 09.07.2018,” an official statement said on Saturday.
As per order, no assembly or congregation will be allowed without prior permission of District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/ Sub Divisional Magistrate. Similarly, no person shall use loudspeaker or any other device for making a speech or any announcement for any other purpose without prior permission of District Magistrate/ Additional District Magistrate.
