Gunshots heard during searches in Kulgam village; clashes erupt

Kulgam: Gunshots were heard during a cordon and search operation at Khur Batpora village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

Reports said gunshots were heard soon after government forces launched searches in the area.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in the area as the forces launched the searches. A local said that the forces resorted to aerial firing to chase away stone-throwing protesters.

At least 15 youth were injured as government forces resorted to teargas shelling and pellet firing on a group of protesters who took to streets and staged protests soon after joint team of police, CRPF and army launched a joint cordon and search operation in a Kulgam village of south Kashmir on Sunday. Eyewitnesses told  that scores of youth took to streets soon after the joint team of forces launched the CASO at Khuri Batpora in DH Pora area in the Kulgam district.
