Jammu,23 August,2018-CNS:-Provincial President of Women Wing Satwant Kaur Dogra today said that National Conference under the leadership of Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah is committed for welfare of weaker sections of the society and the party from its very inception had worked for uplifting poor, downtrodden and marginalised section of the society. She was addressing women workers at Jagatpur in Tehsil Marheen of Kathua here today.
The Provincial President said that NC is committed for equality of weaker sections at all levels be it political, educational, economic, technological or social empowerment and will continue to raise issues of discrimination and prejudice against the downtrodden of the State. She highlighted the plight of female students living in far flung areas and stressed that education in general and higher education in particular is insurance for women empowerment and called upon the Governor administration to ensure equality at all levels.
Satwant Kaur said that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a visionary leader who took historical decision for upliftment of the poor people of the state by enacting “Land to Tiller Act” which gave exclusive ownership rights of the land to the poor farmers. She said that most of the beneficiaries of this revolutionary step were people belonging to the weaker sections especially scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes. She said that Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are carrying forward the legacy of Sher-e-Kashmir and appealed people to strengthen secular credentials of National Conference at grass root level.
Satwant expressed grave concern over the lackadaisical approach of the previous government of PDP/BJP in addressing the issues pertaining to the weaker sections of the society. She said economic emancipation and political empowerment of weaker sections was imperative for harmonious growth of the society. She assailed the previous coalition government for failing on all fronts and pushing the state to unprecedented governance inertia, as a result of which developmental activities have come to grinding halt.
Satwant said that emotive, divisive, communal and regional politics played by erstwhile PDP/BJP coalition government has hurt the consciousness of the people, who have been pushed to the worst kind of split. There is a need to bridge the gap which alone can be done by National Conference, which believes in unity, integrity and prosperity of all the three regions of the state. She appealed functionaries to gear up grass root units to fill the political vacuum.
She was accompanied by Provincial Vice President Soma Devi, Provincial Joint Secretary Bharti Sharma, Block President Shakuntla Devi and Pradeep Sharma Youth NC President who also addressed the women workers and appealed them to strengthen the hands of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
