Srinagar, Sep 7, CNS: In a brazen violation of rules and regulations, a Principal with the help of two teachers demolished a heritage school building at Pattan here in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Furious officials have ordered probe while locals demand strict action against the culprits. Ironically, the Principal did all this week before his retirement.
Reports said that Principal (now retired) Government Higher Secondary School Pattan demolished the heritage school building without seeking permission from higher authorities. Reports added that Principal did this in connivance with two teachers who according to locals have been posted in the said Higher Secondary from past 25 years and have been dictating terms in administrative matters.
“The Principal and the two teachers after demolishing the heritage building sold the timber and the left out material to blue eyed persons,” locals alleged adding that no tenders were floated and everything was done in haste.
“They sold the timber on commission basis without the approval from higher ups,” they said.
In Charge Principal Abdul Majid confirmed that this heritage building was dismantled illegally. “It’s very unfortunate that all norms were floated and everything was done on personal basis without the approval of higher authorities,” he said.
Chief Education Officer, Baramulla, Abdul Ahad told news agency CNS that an inquiry has been initiated in this regard. “We had not issued any formal order and were shocked to learn that this heritage school building has been dismantled. Strict action will be initiated against the culprits,” he assured. (CNS)
