Conference on Role of Saha in Physics held at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar 06 Oct 2018 Saleem:- To stimulate youngsters towards a career in research in basic and applied sciences biographies are very effective. October 6, 2018 happens to be Prof. MN Saha’s 125th birth anniversary. So in this regard we decided to hold a conference to highlight his contribution to various fields of Physical/ Chemical sciences and Education. Specially the new generation need to be made aware of his unparallel contributions in different phases of the development of science and India as a nation.

Saha was an astrophysicist best known for his development of the Saha equation, used to describe chemical and physical conditions in stars.

The conference was inaugurated by Dean, R&C Prof Ajaz Zargar at 10 AM in The morning. There were three technical session and 15 papers were presented on various aspects of life and work of Saha.

There was a poster session in which students from NIT and central university of Kashmir participated. The three invited talks were presented in each technical session by Prof Rajesh Kochar of Punjab university, Dr Rathnasree from Nehru Planetarium and Dr. E. Kirubha from Anna University. We had delegates from Bihar and New Delhi also.

Delegates from Kashmir University, Islamic university and degree colleges of kashmir valley presented their papers.

We also organized a panel discussion on ‘Educational opportunities for Science and Engineering graduates from valley: Challenges and Prospects’ during the conference. The recommendation of panel discussion will be sent to the concerned quarters. The panelists of the discussion were Professor Sheikh Javed, VC Cluster University Kashmir , Prof Zahoor Chat, Director, HE, J&K, Prof Nazir Shah, Principal SSM College of Engg College, Prof Rajesh Kochar, Punjab University and Dr Rathnasree. The main issues which were deliberated upon are the non availability of winter internship and winter courses to students of J&K following winter timings and academic schedule.

Most of the Institutes and science academies in India offer summer courses and internship programmes, they may be requested to extend this facility during winter months from December to February as well. The other recommendation were regarding awareness of exams like kvpy, JAM, NGEP, NIUS and JEST.
Dr. Gousia Qazi Associate Dean, Dr. Seemin Rubab Chairperson ,Dr. M. A. Shah organizing Secretary of the event were appreciated by all participants and delegates for organizing and conducted the event in a very scientific and smooth way. (CNS)
