Srinagar,Jan 02 CNS: Kashmir Valley received this year’s first snowfall during the intervening night. A MeT official said that fresh snowfall was recorded at ski resort Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Kupwara, parts of Bandipora including Gurez.
Due to snowfall raods leading to Gurez have been closed while snow clearance machines have been pressed into service to remove thick layers of snow on the roads. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Chowdary said that snow clearance process is underway at Chorwan, Dawar and Gurez. He said 3 machines have been deployed for clearance while essential services have also been reviewed.
“Gulmarg got another thick layer of snow. 9 inches and counting. More snowfall expected and there is also drop in cold across Kashmir. Weather to remain wet in next 3 to 4 days,” tweeted a Journo.
A local from Kupwara district said that it has been snowing there and so for a couple of inches of snow has accumulated on the roads.
Traffic has been suspended on Srinagar-Jammu Highway due to snowfall. Reports said it has been snowing near Banihal Tunnel since dawn
