Locals from Kanir village accuse army soldiers of ‘harassment and manhandling’

Chadoora, Jan 12, CNS: Army soldiers on Friday night barged the house of a People’s Democratic Party leader and thrashed the inmates ‘ruthlessly’, alleged the family living in Kanir village of Chadoora town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The army action sparked protest in the village prompting PDP leaders including Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora and Engineer Nazir Ahmed Itoo to visit the village to pacify the protesters.

The locals told news agency CNS that army soldiers from Chambora Khansahab camp barged into the house of PDP Youth Halqa president Manzoor Ahmed Mir during the dead of the night and thrashed his brother, son and other family members.

The family members said that the raid was uncalled for and without any provocation the soldiers manhandled and abused the family members. “We don’t know why they did it and why they thrashed and abused us. One of our family members Bashir Ahmed received serious injuries in his head and face and was shifted to hospital,” they said.

PDP leader Nazir Ahmed Itoo while condemning the army action alleged that soldiers are forcing every Kashmiri to pick up the gun. He said that if such incidents won’t stop, then everyone in Kashmir will be left with no option but to pick up the gun,
