Srinagar, Jan 22, CNS: A massive protest erupted in Habakadal area of Srinagar city after a boy sustained critical injuries when a trooper alleged hurled a stone on him while he was crossing a bridge.

Eyewitnesses told news agency CNS that a 15 year old boy whom they identified as Muhammad Younis Faffu son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Habakadal was crossing the bridge in the area when a trooper without any provocation hurled a stone on him from his Bunkar cum CRFP camp.

The boy sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. The victim has received head injury.

The incident sparked shutdown and protest in the area while the locals demanded removal of the bunker saying that it is a nuisance for them.

“CRPF personnel try to provoke people on daily basis. Today’s incident is a glaring example how these troopers want to create disturbance in the area,” the locals said and raised high pitched pro-freedom slogans.

Shortly after the incident, a team led by senior police officer rushed to spot and pacified the protesters. They assured protesters that they will take up the matter with the authorities. (CNS)
