Baramulla,Jan 25 CNS:In connection with 9th National Voters day (NVD) being celebrated every year throughout the country on 25th of January, an awareness camp commemorating the event was today organised here at District Court Complex with Chairman District Legal Services Authority(DLSA) and Principal District and Sessions Judge, Rajesh Shekri as the chief guest.
Programme was organized by DLSA
with an aim to educate new voters regarding the importance of exercising their franchise. The central theme for 9th voters day was “Accessible Elections”.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest threw light on the significance of the Day and said that the main objective of the Day is to ensure that a maximum number of young voters take part in the political process. He said that the Day is held every year on January 25 to encourage youngsters, who have reached the age of 18, to participate in the electoral process.
Rajesh Shekri stressed upon the fact that celebration of National Voters Day aims at spreading necessary information regarding the right to vote and its importance. He also highlighted the significance of electoral mechanism in democratic setup and said that the voters exercise their powers in governance through electoral process.
Various district and sectoral officers, legal volunteers and experts and various others concerned were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, similar function was held at Tehsil Court Complex Pattan where the function was presided over by Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) and Sub-Judge Amarjeet Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman highlighted the importance of franchise to strengthen the democracy and said right to vote is a legal and constitutional right and everyone should caste his democratic right
Moreover, several speakers also spoke at the event and threw light on the topic wherein they highlighted the significance of electoral system in democracy.(CNS)
