Srinagar, Mar 1, CNS: Number of pro-India political leaders Friday castigated Government of India for banning Jammat-e-Islami. While questioning the ban, these leaders demand immediate revocation on this what they termed as ‘senseless’ ban.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti condemned the ban saying, “the crackdown followed by banning Jammat Islami is condemnable. She added that it was another example of high handedness and muscular approach of GOI to deal with political issue of J&K.
Taking to Twitter, President of Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti said, ‘Ideas cannot be banned or jailed, and Government needs better idea to replace it.’ She added that India is a democracy with different ideologies battling it out democratically. Steps like this chocks space for dissent and leads us to violent times.
Chairman Peoples Conference Sajad Lone while taking to his Twitter handle said that in a vibrant democracy ideas have to be fought and not banned,”Y (why) has Jamaat been banned. Jamaat is a social political and religious organisation. In a vibrant democracy ideas have to be fought not banned. This organization has given us illustrious leaders and legislators. How can they b banned. I strongly pitch for revocation of the ban,” he tweeted.
Pertinently, Home Ministry of India on Thursday evening banned Jammu and Kashmir based Jamaat-e-Islami labeling it as an “unlawful association” under Section 3 of Unlawful (prevention) Act.
