Handwara, Mar 1, CNS: Two forces personnel, two cops were killed after a militant presumed dead by the government forced emerged from the debris and fired indiscriminately.
At least five soldiers were also wounded in the gunfight.
Earlier, a gun fight raged in Babagund Langate area of Handwara in the frontier Kupwara after government forces received information about the presence of militants.
As the search party zeroed in on the house in which militants were hiding, they fired thus ensuing an encounter. The intermittent firing continued for couple of hours.
A couple of persons were injured when clashes erupted between forces and locals near encounter site. One of the injured identified as Wasim Mir of Sagipora later on succumbed to his injuries.
Reports said that after a lull, it was presumed that militants have been killed, suddenly one of the militants fired indiscriminately leading to injuries to CRPF Inspector, a policeman and five army soldiers who were evacuated to a military hospital where two of them–one CRPF man and the policeman—succumbed, taking the death toll of four personnel to four.(CNS)
