Varansi, Mar 13, CNS Mushtaq Pahalgami represented the Himalayan Welfare Organization-HWO in a week long International Conference organized by Global Peace Initiative Of Women (GPIW) New York and Jnana Pravaha at Varansi Utter Pradesh India on Inner Dimensions of Climate Change – India.
Pahalgami emphasized the significance of glaciers,water bodies and the need and urgency to preserve Himalayas rivers and forests and forests, particularly around glacier and sensitive areas .
He also questioned the government’s development plans for region and raised concerns over environment and health related issues. The need to understand the importance of sustainable development strategies and the link between markets and environmental degradation was also highlighted, amid general appreciation and participative reception of the talk by the audience.
The seminar was attended by a large and varied community of scholars, policy makers, activists and media people from across the world .
Pahalgami appreciates and lauds the initiatives by global peace initiative of women and hopes more such programmes are held in the future in regions like Kashmir Utrakhand and Northeast and that concrete changes result from such initiatives and urges the participants to do their due so that they can then have the moral authority to question the government for failing to deliver.
