Budgam, May 28, CNS:  Protest erupted against Wild Life Department after a leopard mauled all but 18 sheep in a far flung village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Locals from Gund-e-Mumdar Lassipora village alleged that despite bringing into the notice of Wild Life Department that wild animals including bear and leopards roam freely in the area, no heed was given to allay the apprehensions of locals.

The protesters who chanted slogans against the Department said that a ferocious leopard entered into the cowshed of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat and mauled around 18 sheep while critically wounding four of them. “Who will compensate the owner of the herd now. He is finished. We appeal to the concerned Minister to initiate strict action against Wild Life officials for laxity,” the protesters told CNS.
